The Heuvel family knows food and their Iam Pasta Café in Winter Haven is dishing it up nicely.

The casual eatery is definitely a family affair. Since moving from Amsterdam in Holland to Central Florida, the Heuvels have owned two prior establishments – the Café Doughmonde, a bakery/cafe in Haines City, and the Iamsterdam Panini Café in Winter Haven, neither of which allowed room for expansion. Norby’s Steak and Seafood & Al’s Place

alsplace2

If steak, seafood, and live music are your thing, then chances are that Wayne Finger’s Norby’s Steak and Seafood and Al’s Place in Lake Wales is the place for you. Finger has brought new life to these community mainstays.

For many years, Norby’s had been a run-of-the-mill sports bar along Highway 60. But when Finger bought it in 1993, a gradual transformation began. Finger says over time more and more food was added to the menu, until the point where, about 14 years ago, the old drinking joint became a legitimate restaurant. More...

Chicago Hub Restaurant

Manny’s opened the middle of June where the Sundown Southern Eatery had been for the last year. Before that it was Christy’s Sundown, as everybody knows, for the last 50 years. Mr. Christy passed away and Fred Johnson of Fred’s Southern Kitchen renovated and redecorated the facility and opened the Sundown. More...

Fred’s Southern Kitchen

DSCN0594

A couple of months ago we took a trip to Fred’s Southern Kitchen in Lakeland and ate selections from the buffet like we would never be eating again. Then we immersed your senses in a detailed report on our experience, and we hope you afterwards got a chance to check out one of their locations. This month, we went to the Plant City restaurant and enjoyed another fulfilling meal. Once again, we talked about the food all the way back to the FOCUS mobile. This time, though, we didn’t just go for the food – what we were most interested to see was the innovative program Fred’s is experimenting with – it’s as fresh an idea as their food is Southern.
